CCI Mediums was founded in 2005 by Jeremy Carter. Carter was born with a passion for art and sound. Playing music in bands occupied much of his teenage years, and at the age of fourteen he built his first guitar. In 1995, Carter graduated a year early from high school and enrolled in the Totnes School of Guitar Making in Devon, England. There, he was trained to build wooden stringed instruments by hand and received his Luthier’s Certificate. Carter returned to the United States to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied Sound and received a 2001 BFA. While enrolled, the young artist also continued to build instruments and was trained on power tools in the school’s woodshop. In 2003, Carter was employed by Dusty Strings Harp Factory, where he mastered the use of precision industrial shop tools and gained a knowledge of clean, efficient woodworking. This ideal led to the creation of many new instruments. Carter currently operates CCI Mediums out of Columbia, South Carolina and continues to take on new projects.
